PRICES ON the Hong Kong Stock Exchange closed higher after two straight sessions of sharp declines, boosted by Wall Street's rise on Friday night.

The Hang Seng index ended up 87.87 points, or 0.7 per cent, at 12,147.12, after slumping 2 per cent last Friday. Brokers said share prices were also pushed up by a bout of bargain-hunting late in the session, after the blue chip index dipped to 12,000. Shares of Cathay Pacific Airways slumped because of a pay dispute between the airline and its pilots.
