GERMANY'S DAX Index closed up 0.2 per cent yesterday, well off early highs, after the expiry of futures and options contracts.
Adidas-Salomon extended its gains to more than 9 per cent, lifted by positive earnings from rival Nike. The DAX ended up 0.20 per cent, or 12.61 points, at 6,353.90 points.
Mannesmann, the engineering and telecoms group, ended almost 5 per cent firmer amid reports that it may be willing to consider a cash sweetener in Vodafone AirTouch's bid for its business.
