THE DAX index ended steady, with gains by takeover target Mannesmann countered by nervousness about banks' exposure to financially troubled builder Philipp Holzmann.
The DAX closed 0.07 per cent higher at 5,818.73. Holzmann said last week it had found losses of DM2.4bn. Holzmann shares, which had been suspended, rose 57.32 per cent to 36.11 euros, rebounding from an 84 per cent loss on Tuesday after banks failed to agree a rescue deal.
