THE XETRADAX closed up just 0.20 points at 5,468.67 in a session dominated by the 5 per cent fall, to 379 euros, of software maker SAP.

Newspaper reports said the group was facing difficulties in its leading software. Meanwhile, a weak opening on Wall Street provided little momentum.

Volkswagen fell 2 per cent to 56.60 euros after it said it was expecting slower growth. BMW climbed 3 per cent to 706.12 euros on the back of hopes for Rover's Longbridge plant.
