SHARE PRICES closed lower in thin trading, as investors remain sidelined ahead of Carnival.

The benchmark Bovespa index of leading shares closed 38 points lower at 8,952 points, after trading in a range of 8,839 to 9,996, on low turnover of 283.649m reals.

One analyst said: "There was a lot of day trading in the market and not much else happening as investors are sidelined until after Carnival."
