THE Gas Consumers Council yesterday attacked British Gas Trading for its "get tough" policy on customers who have difficulty paying, after new figures showed that disconnections rose by more than 60 per cent in the first quarter of the year.
A total of 8,986 customers were disconnected between January and March, up from 5,541 last year and a trebling in the rate of disconnections since 1995.
