From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.New London homeowners are snapping up upmarket cookers from maker Aga following a recovery in the housing market since the general election.
William McGrath, chief executive of Aga Rangemaster, which today posted a 1.5% revenue rise to £125.4 million, said: “We were and are very well placed to benefit as the housing market picks up.”
He added that in the six months to June 30, sales were slower before the May election, with the threat of a mansion tax meaning buyers and potential Aga owners were put off from shelling out for expensive homes.
Models such as the slimline Aga City60, promoted by model Daisy Lowe, which has a width of only 60 centimetres, were popular in the capital.
Costs linked to its £129 million takeover by US rival Middleby contributed to a pre-tax loss of £4 million.
“Working with Middleby should provide additional momentum to enable our operations to thrive,” said McGrath.
