Britain's three main parties will launch their European election manifestos today, ending the seven-day truce marking John Smith's death, writes Colin Brown.

The Tories may be accused of a negative campaign. John Major, in a mailshot to voters, warns: 'By voting Labour or Liberal, you would be voting for a weak Britain submerged in a European superstate.'
