From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Oscars just got an infusion of Kenergy.

Ryan Gosling will sing the pop power ballad ā€œ Iā€™m Just Ken ā€ at the show on March 10, the show's producers announced Wednesday. Others set to perform their nominated original songs include Billie Eilish and Finneas Oā€™Connell, Jon Batiste, Scott George and the Osage Singers and Becky G.

Gosling is also nominated for best supporting actor that evening. While in character as Ken in a promo for the show with Jimmy Kimmel, he shrugged that heā€™s not going to win. In fairness, even if it was a joke, he might not be wrong: His fellow nominee Robert Downey Jr. has been sweeping the season.

ā€œIā€™m Just Ken,ā€ written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, still has a chance, however, even if the other ā€œBarbieā€ song, Eilish and Finneasā€™s soulful ā€œWhat Was I Made Forā€ seems to be the clear awards favorite to date, having already won a Grammy. But the Ken ballad is also the one everyone has wanted to see on the Oscars telecast, which will mark Goslingā€™s first time performing at the show.

As Ken might shout, hiding behind a corner that he believes is somehow soundproof: ā€œSublime!ā€

The other nominated songs include Diane Warren's ā€œThe Fire Inside,ā€ from ā€œFlamin' Hot,ā€ Jon Batiste and Dan Wilson's ā€œIt Never Went Awayā€ from ā€œAmerican Symphony,ā€ and Scott George's ā€œWahzhazheā€ from ā€œKillers of the Flower Moon.ā€

The 96th Oscars will be broadcast live on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 10 with the show beginning at 7 p.m. EDT.
