The mother who abandoned her baby boy in Plymouth Civic Centre two days before Christmas after telling staff she could not cope is being counselled by social workers after being found wandering the streets in a distressed condition.
She was spotted by members of the public in a South Hams town, 20 miles from Plymouth, on Sunday. The woman, who has not been named, could have contact with her baby in the next few days.
The baby, dubbed Noel, is being cared for by social services. It is understood that the mother was married, but the father had left shortly before the birth. She is unlikely to face any charges.
