From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Apart from the impressive display of athleticism, Super Bowl ads are easily the best part of game night, and this year was no different.

During Super Bowl LV, we saw everything from a 2D Matthew McConaughey to a bizarre Oatly ad featuring one of the “worst” product jingles.

There were also uplifting moments, with a Toyota commercial featuring the real-life story of Paralympian Jessica Long, to an emotional commercial for Indeed showing the ups and downs of job-searching.

From the most amusing to the downright strange, these were the best Super Bowl LV ads.

Dolly Parton re-works “9-5”

One of the most talked-about adverts was country star Dolly Parton’s reworking of her hit song “9-5”. In this ad spot by Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle, Parton promotes Squarespace by urging viewers to follow their passions “5-9”.

Michael B Jordan is Alexa

The Black Panther actor got hearts racing with this hilarious advert for Amazon, playing up to his status as one of the most attractive men in Hollywood.

Matthew McConaughey goes 2D

'Creepy' Matthew McConaughey Super Bowl ad for Doritos

The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star looks a bit flat in an advert for Doritos, also starring Mindy Kaling and Jimmy Kimmel.

On social media, the ad was met with mixed reactions, with some calling the depiction of McConaughey "creepy".

Wayne’s World Reunites for “The Big Bowl”

Mike Myers and Dana Carvey teamed up for an advert from Uber Eats, featuring many of the duo’s classic catchphrases.

Dan Levy kidnaps an M&M

The Golden Globe-nominated Schitt’s Creek star doesn’t appear too guilty about eating M&Ms in this funny clip about people using the chocolate treat to say sorry, especially given he’s holding one hostage in his car.

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis argue over Cheetos

The Hollywood couple appeared in a spot for Cheetos, in which Kutcher accuses his wife, Kunis, of stealing the Cheetos Crunch Pop Mix. Shaggy defends her with a rendition of his 2000 hit “It Wasn’t Me”.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani poke fun at their relationship

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton mock their relationship in 'hilarious' Super Bowl ad

In an ad for T-Mobile, the real-life engaged couple joked about the possible circumstances that led to their first date, with Adam Levine and poor cell service to blame for their unique pairing.

Toyota featuring Jessica Long

Toyota Super Bowl ad features moving story about Paralympic swimmer Jessica Long

Considered one of the best ads of the night, Toyota's ad featured the inspirational story of Paralympian Jessica Long, who had her legs removed when she was a child, only to later become the second most-decorated Paralympian.

Oatly's CEO sings a bizarre jingle

As opposed to the ad above, Oatly's ad earned itself mostly negative reviews, with viewers both confused and annoyed by the commercial for the oat milk brand.

Located in a field,  the company's CEO, Toni Petersson sings an oddly catchy song about the milk, which prompted reactions such as: "That commercial was so bad that I'll never buy Oatly milk ever." It was the best of the worst.

Reddit opted for a very on-brand ad

For Reddit's commercial, the platform decided to allegedly spend its entire marketing budget on the shortest-ever Super Bowl commercial.

The five-second ad urged viewers to pause it to read it, with the message oddly uplifting.

Drake from State Farm

Drake made a Super Bowl cameo in a State Farm commercial, where he put an amusing twist on Jake from State Farm.

Timothee Chalamet for Cadillac

Timothee Chalamet is Edgar Scissorhands in new Cadillac advert

The Call Me By Your Name star took on the role of Edgar Scissorhands, not to be confused with Edward Scissorhands, in this ad for Cadillac’s Super Cruise hands-free driving feature.
