Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Churchill has this month begun a promotion giving away a cuddly toy dog, to those who buy a car or home insurance policy from the company. But Bargain Hunter readers can get one free in this week's exclusive competition

The soft toy is a fun replica of the Churchill dog. It even says the famous "Oh yes" catch-phrase when its collar is squeezed. The toy is aimed at children of all ages – "anyone who loves the Churchill dog", the company says.

To qualify for one of the soft toys, people need to buy a policy from Churchill before the end of May – but we have 10 up for grabs for readers. To be in with a chance of winning, send the answer to the following question to yourmoney@independent.co.uk by Thursday 12 March.

The question: What was the name of the 1972 British film directed by Richard Attenborough that was based on Winston Churchill's book My Early Life: A Roving Commission?

Married couples and civil partners: claim a tax break

From 6 April, more than 4 million married couples and 15,000 civil partners will be eligible for a new tax break.

The marriage allowance will allow a spouse or civil partner who doesn't pay tax to transfer up to £1,060 of their personal tax-free allowance to a spouse or civil partner – as long as the recipient doesn't pay more than the basic rate of income tax.

You'll need to register to claim the tax relief, but you can do so now by going online to bit.ly/18lRS4P.
