For instance it is bringing the cost of its Shopping Mall collection – which includes a boutique, beauty shop and toy shop, as well as the mall – down from £172.96 to £130.00, while the Fire Engines bundle drops to £80 from £106.97.

Travellers in credit with an American Express card

Got an American Express? You could get a £50 credit on your statement if you spend £150 or more with American Express Travel. You’ll need to connect your card to TripAdvisor and book through American Express Travel before 18 December 2014. Discounts on novels: a plot twist for festive shoppers

Here’s a Christmas idea for friends or family who enjoy a good read – get them a classic novel.

And now couldn’t be a better time as Blackwell’s is offering 30 per cent off its range of 785 Oxford World’s Classics paperbacks for the next couple of weeks.

The bargains include F Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, both down from £6.99 to £4.89. Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist, meanwhile, is reduced from £7.99 to £5.59.

Take a cut-price cultural excursion with Eurostar

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Eurostar is offering return fares from just £59 to Paris, Brussels, Lille or Calais in standard class.

The sale of tickets, for travel between 5 January and 12 February 2015, runs until 24 November.

Marks & Spencer is tempting shoppers to spend more by offering to repay the cost of Christmas to one of its credit card customers.

To be in with a chance of winning, you need to buy something using your M&S credit card by 31 December. In fact, for every time you use it, you’ll get an entry into the draw. Don’t go mad, though – the maximum payout is £10,000.
