A range of fixes from Yorkshire Building Society starts with just 1.9 per cent until 1 May next year. Buildings and contents insurance is compulsory and there is a redemption penalty of three months' interest during the first two years.

Other rates in this series are 2.9 per cent until July 1995 and 5.55 per cent until January 1996. The society also offers 6.75 per cent until January 1997, 7.85 per cent until January 1998 and 8.75 per cent until January 2000. The arrangement fee is pounds 250.

John Charcol has a fix of just under three years (to June 1997) at 6.75 per cent for 75 per cent loans, 7.25 per cent for 85 per cent and 7.75 per cent for 95 per cent loans. There is no obligation to buy insurances. The fee is pounds 295.

Bristol & West has a two-year cap at 6.49 per cent for loans up to 90 per cent. There is a pounds 275 fee and a three-month redemption penalty.
