Alliance & Leicester has launched a new First Class postal account offering 6.6 per cent on minimum balances of pounds 10,000 or more. The account offers up to three withdrawals without loss of interest. Call 0645 228858.

West Bromwich Building Society is offering a new fixed-rate mortgage, pegged at 6.95 per cent until May 2000, which includes 12 months' free loan protection cover. National Westminster has launched a series of new savings products, including Reward Reserve, a new instant access account offering 4.24 per cent gross on deposits above pounds 10,000, assuming that no more than one withdrawal is made per quarter. Details from branches.

Coventry Building Society is offering a new "capped" mortgage, guaranteeing to keep the cost of the loan at or below the current standard variable rate of 7.6 per cent until September 2002.
