Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The company – which offers insurance against burst pipes, broken gas boilers and electrical problems – has also been forced to hand out £17m in compensation to customers hit by its practices.
The Financial Conduct Authority said HomeServe mis-sold insurance, handled complaints badly, ignored compliance matters and cared more about incurring costs than customer risks.
The offences were no one-off, continuing over a period of six and a half years between January 2005 and October 2011. The watchdog said it considered the failings to be particularly serious given that a significant proportion of HomeServe customers were of retirement age and therefore more vulnerable.
On top of the fine, HomeServe has already compensated customers to the tune of almost £13m, but is expected to pay out about £4m more. It said everyone hit by the scandal will have been contacted by the end of March.
