Telephone offer

Alliance & Leicester is giving away 15,000 cordless phones worth pounds 75 or mobile phones priced at pounds 250 and linked to the Vodaphone system, to customers opening one of its new current accounts, which offer 24-hour telephone banking, before 7 October. At least one pounds 300 salary cheque must be paid into the account.

Executing PEPs

British Taxpayers, a firm of financial consultants, is launching an execution-only service for investors in unit trusts and PEPs. It will cost 1 per cent commission instead of the usual 3 per cent, with the balance used to enhance the investment. Call 071-491 1468 for details.

C&G helpdesk

Cheltenham & Gloucester is extending its telephone answering service to incorporate a helpdesk dealing with inquiries over its proposed takeover by Lloyds Bank. The service will operate on 0345 889900 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday.

Help for elderly
