ABBEY National has a 15-month 6.1 per cent fix for first-time buyers and a 7.75 per cent five-year fix for all mortgage customers.

Alliance & Leicester is offering a two-year fix at 6.25 per cent and a three-year at 6.95 per cent. There is an arrangement fee of 0.5 per cent of the loan up to a maximum of pounds 300. The maximum advance is 90 per cent.

Mortgage Services offers a 3 per cent discount on its variable rate - currently 7.89 per cent - until July 1994. The maximum advance is 92 per cent. It also has a one- year fix of 4.89 per cent on 75 per cent advances. Barclays has a seven-year fix of 8.59 per cent.
