Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Lizzo shared the post-show private messages the Barbadian singer sent her expressing her appreciation for her show stopping routine.
“She DM'ed me to tell me that I performed good," the “Juice” singer told the news outlet.
"She said I f*cked the stage like it was my side b*tch. Don't get mad, Rihanna. I am not trying to blow up your spot, but that was a hard a*s line! I might take that line.”
When pressed on a possible collaboration with the "Umbrella" artist and whether footage was likely to emerge of the pair in the studio, Lizzo replied: “Listen, we need a video of Rihanna in the studio, period.
”I am not going to bother her, 'cause I know what that feels like, so I am going to let her do what she ought to do. I love Rihanna."
Lizzo also spoke about her upcoming collaboration with Justin Timberlake. In the middle of August, the "Cry me a River" star posted a video of the pair in the studio.
”I had fun doing it,“ Lizzo said.
”Collaborations, for me, is about the energy and the relationship. I mean, it is Justin Timberlake, so I am not trying to be like, 'Ahh, I didn't have a good vibe with Justin Timberlake.'“
In addition to her award-winning music, Lizzo has also become well-known for her messages of self-love and body positivity.
Speaking on stage at Sunday’s event, the "Tempo" star – who performed in front of a pair of large, inflatable buttocks – paused in the middle of her hit song "Good as Hell" to say: “I’m tired of the bullsh*t – and I don’t have to know your story to know that you’re tired of the bullsh*t too.
“It’s so hard trying to love yourself in a world that doesn’t love you back, am I right? So I want to take this opportunity right now to just feel good as h*ll. Because you deserve to feel good as h*ll. We deserve to feel good as h*ll!”
The upbeat singer was nominated for a Best New Artist, Best Power Anthem and Best Song of Summer awards, but lost out to Billy Eilish, Megan Thee Stallion and Ariana Grande and Social House respectively.
