Lady Gaga and Madonna quash feud rumours by embracing for photo after Oscars

The pair were photographed together at Madonna's Academy Awards afterparty

Lady Gaga and Madonna were photographed in an intimate embrace at the “Like a Virgin” singer’s Oscars afterparty, for a picture which Madonna shared on Instagram with the caption: “Don’t mess with Italian girls”.

In the photo, which was taken by a French photographer who goes by the pseudonym JR, Gaga and Madonna can be seen lying on a white sheet.

Madonna is wearing a white and gold kaftan by Julia Clancey, with Henry Sillam jewellery and an extravagant headdress, while Gaga is wearing a black Brandon Maxwell ballgown and a 128-carat yellow diamond, rumoured to have last been worn by Audrey Hepburn.

The image was captured exclusively for Time magazine and shows Madonna cupping Gaga’s face, while the A Star Is Born actor tightly grips her Oscar in her right hand.

Numerous people have been commenting on the photo, remarking that it quashes any speculation of conflict between the pair.

In 2011, some of Madonna’s fans accused Gaga of copying her 1989 song “Express Yourself” for the 2011 track “Born This Way”.

Madonna addressed the controversy during a 2012 ABC interview, saying that Gaga’s song “feels reductive”.

Five years later, Gaga was filmed commenting on the situation for her Netflix documentary Gaga: Five Food Two.

“She wouldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that I was reductive,” the “Poker Face” singer stated.

In a video filmed at Madonna’s Academy Awards afterparty and later shared on Twitter, she and Gaga can be seen with their heads resting against one another as they pose for the photographer.

Numerous people have been commenting on the affectionate photo taken of the pair.

“Omg this makes me sooo happy,” one person commented on Madonna’s Instagram post.

“I’ve loved you since I was little and I always hated the press pitting you against each other when Gaga blatantly admired you and grew up listening to your work.”

“Great picture of two amazing artists who rock it,” another added.

Others urged Madonna and Gaga to collaborate on music together.

Following her Oscar win, Gaga was asked during the subsequent press conference whether she had a message for her LGBT+ fans, many of whom are currently celebrating at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Australia.

“I wish, to everyone who is going to that celebration, to feel a joy inside of them. That’s actually what Bradley said to me yesterday right before we did our last rehearsal for this performance of ‘Shallow’,” she said.

“He said: ‘Let’s just drop a little bit of joy,’ and I said, ‘OK’. And, it turns out joy did a whole lot for me.”
