TV presenter Anita Rani has opened up about having a miscarriage in a heartfelt article in which she compares the experience to a bereavement or “something that’s left you in a pit of despair”.

Writing for Red magazine, the Countryfile presenter explains how the miscarriage shaped her year and what she learned as a result.

Rani posted about the article on Instagram, describing it as “the most honest and open” she’s ever been in public.

“I talk about how I bottled up my feelings, because I’m good at that and how sadness always finds a release,” the 42-year-old added.

“I’ve written a piece for everyone who may have had some s*** sent their way.”

Rani went on to explain how a miscarriage can leave you “in the pit of despair” and urged women going through one to talk about it.

“Don’t let the misplaced shame stop you or the fact that it can be very hard to talk about it,” she said.

“Find someone you trust and tell them. It helps. I hope the piece I’ve written helps a few of you too.”

Rani’s post has already garnered hundreds of likes and comments thanking her for her candour.

“You are a strong, courageous, beautiful lady, and an inspiration to a lot of women,” wrote one person.

“Thank you for sharing this,” another added. “Felt I also could not talk about it as I am good at bottling things up.”
