Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

American Airlines' award-winning Web site, AA.com, is now offering UK on-line bookings. To celebrate The Independent and Independent on Sunday have joined forces with American to give away seven fantastic weekend breaks to New York City. You and a friend could be flying in style in American's luxury Business Class, enjoying complimentary limousine transfers and staying at the prestigious Le Parker Meridien on Central Park.

HOW TO ENTER

There are seven luxury breaks to be won and you can enter every day for one week. We will be printing a different question every day until Friday 19 November 1999.

For your chance to win simply log on the American Airlines website at www.aa.com. All the answers to the daily questions are found within three clicks of the mouse. And we've even given you a handy hint to point you in the right direction.

Once you have the answer to today's question, email your answer to Independent@aa.com together with your name, address and contact telephone number, and we'll enter you into the prize draw. One prize will be awarded on each day of the competition to the first correct randomly drawn entry.

AA.com allows you to personalise your own home page, which can include online fare specials and travel deals that meet your specific travel interests. You'll find product information, route information and there's even an electronic timetable that you can download to your PC or laptop. To experience the personalisation feature, just enrol in the AAdvantage frequent flyer programme on the website (a two-minute process). You'll receive a membership number and a PIN, which gives you private access to your home page. And it's all with just a few simple clicks of the mouse.
