Contact with the river helps make London pleasurable. Just south-west of Putney bridge stands the Duke's Head, a large building whose front room has huge windows overlooking the water. Hardier souls can ask for a plastic glass and brave the breezes playing around the benches on the pavement below while the sun sets over the dark green trees of Bishop's Park. One can point out that the church opposite is the one whose lightning conductor fell off and impaled the priest in The Omen.
