The recently retired Philadelphia Eagles player was part of Monday Night Countdown on ESPN, the pregame show ahead of Monday’s game between the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Jets.
As the analysts were introduced, Scott Van Pelt named Marcus Spears and Ryan Clark. But while he was listing off Kelce’s achievements, such as winning the Super Bowl in 2018 and appearing at the Super Bowl in 2023, he also noted his wardrobe mistake.
“All that said, Jason Kelce is wearing a shirt he got at the mall because he left his travel bag in the truck,” Van Pelt told viewers.
“It fits my belly now. I’ve lost a little bit of weight, but my tits are still struggling,” Kelce jokingly replied.
Clark then chimed in, saying, “The fact that a Hall of Fame center can shop at LuluLemon. That’s big, man. That’s a big accomplishment.”
The clip from the show was reposted on both Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter, where Kelce’s younger brother and Kansas City Chiefs player, Travis, used the opportunity to make fun of his brother.
“Surprised he bought a new one and didn’t just go shirtless,” he wrote on X and commented on Instagram.
This isn’t the first time Travis has joked with his brother about his clothing. When Jason’s documentary, titled Kelce, premiered last fall he was seen wearing shorts and flip-flops, which Travis also made fun of him for.
“I was gonna have jeans on, but Kylie…” he started to say during an episode of their New Heights podcast.
“Kylie what?” Travis interrupted.
“Kylie was running late. I just came straight from football. Kylie was going to bring the jeans. Kylie was late,” the elder Kelce brother explained.
However, Travis didn’t think that was a valid excuse, as he told his brother, “Why didn’t Jason bring jeans for Jason?”
Jason started to hesitate as he responded, “Because I was at football. And I needed the jeans for after football. I’m not going to wear jeans all day. That just doesn’t sound fun.”
But as Jason continued to talk about the incident he quickly concluded that his wife wasn’t at fault for his appearance. “Alright, I’m realizing now, I probably can’t blame Kylie for this. Soooo, yeah, I wore shorts and sandals,” he said.
While Jason was preparing for his television appearance, Travis was celebrating the start of football season himself after the Kansas City Chiefs played against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, September 5 with a close final score of 27-20 after Isiah Likely narrowly missed a touchdown that would have tied the game.
Although not everyone was focused on the sport at the time, as the tight end’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift was also at the game to show her support.
Swift walked into the stadium wearing a medium-wash denim corset with matching shorts, thigh-high red boots, and, gold accessories, including a vintage 1970s ancient bronze coin necklace.
She was seen cheering in her seat alongside Kelce’s parents, Ed and Donna, throughout the game. At one point she hugged Donna after Travis caught a 23-yard pass from the team’s quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.
