From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Harry Potter star, who has an estimated net worth of $20m, is offering his services on Cameo, a website that allows fans to hire celebrities to record personalised video messages, where his bio reads: “Actor best known as Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter series.”
“Hello boys, girls, ladies and gentlemen, my name is Tom Felton and I’m excited to be using this Cameo app” the 32-year-old says in a promotional clip on his page. “So hit me up for all your birthday requests or spiritual guidance or motivational speaking.
“I do the lot, I am in California, it is sunny, let me spread the good vibes. Peace and love.”
And, despite the expensive price tag, it appears fans are enjoying the opportunity to receive personalised messages from the actor.
On Cameo, where Felton has a 4.9-star rating, he has 89 reviews from customers pleased with their videos.
“Tom went above and beyond with my video message. Thank you!” one reviewer wrote.
Another said: "Thank you so much Tom! My friend was in tears, she loved it so much.”
Others expressed their gratitude to Felton for keeping the magic of the Wizarding World alive for fans.
“Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!! The Wizarding World is our daughter’s escape from her struggles with Asperger’s and social anxiety,” one five-star review reads. “You will never know what it means to us as parents to have someone like you take the time to do this for her. Truly, thank you from not just the bottom of my heart, but from my whole heart. I just may have to rethink my stance on Draco Malfoy. Just kidding. You are SO AWESOME!!!"
According to the Cameo website, the cost of a video is “set individually by each of the talent” - meaning Felton chose to set the videos at $288 each.
However, Felton is far from the most expensive person on the site, as Caitlyn Jenner requires a $2,500 fee from fans, while Chris Harrison, the host of The Bachelor, charges $375.
