Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Tribal Gathering '97, Luton Hoo Estate, Luton, Bedfordshire, Sat 24 May, 12 noon-8.30am, pounds 35. Information 0181-963 0940,

It's that time of year again. That gargantuan event that is Tribal Gathering is at hand. Thousands of city dwellers brave the fresh country air for an event that blends modern clubbing with a festival/rave vibe.

The 1996 gathering was attended by 25,000 party revellers, a wealth of the world's media industry and most of the music industry.

Luton Hoo Estate, with a capacity for 35,000 revellers, is this year's venue. Tribal Gathering offers more than 20 hours of diverse entertainment, spread over 10 naturally themed areas, including Planet Earth, Amazon, Equator and Tropic. Each area will offer a distinct brand of dance music.

There are also plans for a multimedia village which will boast a chill- out zone, live comedy, cinema, seated cafe, DJ challenge and Sony Playstations. Radio 1 will also be broadcasting live from the event, beaming the skills of Danny Rampling and other DJs and live acts.

As for all of the acts performing - it's almost easier to say who will not be there. All tastes, from drum 'n' bass to techno, will be catered for. Live acts include Faithless, Blue Amazon, and Headrillaz. The Orbital will be attempting to recreate their memorable New Year's Eve set, while the excellent and innovative Daft Punk will be serving up a generous helping of Gallic funk. Electro wizards, Kraftwerk (who had old-skool hits with "Tour de France" and "The Model") claim my vote as most exciting live act.

DJs include Paul Oakenfold, Jon Pleased Wimmin, Sasha & John Digweed, Mickey Finn, Fabio, Groove Rider, Slipmatt, Laurent Garnier, Mr C, Masters at Work and Roger Sanchez.

This is one event that simply doesn't require any hype. For those of you raised on modern post-rave clubbing, even the UK's biggest club venues cannot rival the feeling of partying outdoors with over 30,000 people.

EYE FREEBIE Everyone who's anyone will be at the Tribal Gathering '97 - and so can you. I have three pairs of tickets for the event to give away. And Sony Playstation, one of the event sponsors, are donating one Playstation to the Grand Prize winner. The two runners-up will win goodie bags containing T-shirts and Orbital prizes as well as their tickets.
