The 33-year-old singer and the former soccer player – who’s married to Kansas City Chiefs player Patrick Mahomes – shared the sweet moment during the team’s game against the Los Angeles Charters at Arrowhead Stadium on 22 October. The event marked Swift’s fourth time attending a Chiefs game, amid ongoing reports that she’s dating football tight end Travis Kelce. After she was first spotted at Arrowhead Stadium in September, she and Kelce have been photographed together on various occasions, including a date last weekend in New York City.
In a video posted by NFL on X, formerly known as Twitter, Swift and Mahomes showed off their handshake while sitting in the Mahomes family suite on Sunday, with the move being a reaction to the Chiefs scoring a touchdown during the second quarter of the game.
The celebratory handshake started off with the gals slapping the fronts and back of their hands together multiple times before they held hands and bumped their hips together. In another version of the handshake, as shared by a fan on X, they added a little spin to the move by topping it off with a chest bump.
While sitting in the stands, Swift danced next to Brittany and Patrick Mahomes’ 11-month-old son, Bronze, as he was being held by his mother. At the start of the game, the “All Too Well” singer was spotted taking pictures of Bronze and his mother. In addition, Mahomes was also cheering in the VIP suite with her and her husband’s two-year-old daughter, Sterling.
When Swift made her return to Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, she watched the 33-year-old American footballer’s team win their fifth consecutive game. For the occasion, she wore an oversized red Chiefs crewneck with a black pleated skirt and her signature red lipstick.
She also had a sweet accessory to match: a friendship bracelet with Kelce’s jersey number – 87 – on it, between two beads with hearts on them. The jewellery choice came months after Kelce was spotted wearing a beaded bracelet with the title of Swift’s song “Vigilante S***” from her 2022 album Midnights on it.
The ongoing speculation about Kelce and Swift, which first started in July, has also been tied to friendship bracelets. The NFL star previously revealed he tried to give the singer one with his number on it at one of her concerts earlier this year.
“I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows, because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,” he explained to his brother, Jason Kelce, during an episode of their podcast in July. “So I was a little butthurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her.”
He explained: “If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets and I received a bunch of them being there, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it.”
The decision to bring the bracelet stems from fans trading the jewellery at Swift’s Eras tour shows, with the trend directly inspired by a lyric from her Midnights album, “You’re On Your Own Kid,” which says: “Everything you lose is a step you take / So make the friendship bracelets / Take the moment and taste it.”
The “Blank Space” singer’s recent appearance at Arrowhead Stadium also came days after she and her rumoured boyfriend were spotted holding hands in New York City for the first time, following a surprise cameo on the Saturday Night Live season 49 premiere. At the time, sources claimed that the Kansas City Chiefs player was affectionate with the Grammy winner all night, while others reported that Kelce got a little too close to Swift’s security personnel. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the source also claimed they overheard the NFL player tell the “22” singer’s bodyguard to step aside during their date night.
However, during an episode of his podcast, Kelce explained what he said to the security, and clarified that he didn’t push the bodyguard. “I placed my hand on the gentleman’s back to let him know I was behind him. If I would have pushed him, he probably would have turned around and tased me,” he said.
Elsewhere during the podcast, Kelce was also asked whether his “protective nature” makes him feel like a bodyguard for the women he’s dating. In response, he said: “I feel like whenever I’m on a date I’m always having the sense of, like, I’m a man in the situation. I’m like protective.”
When Jason asked if he ever feels like Swift’s personal security guard, Kelce added: “Yeah, for sure. You always kind of have that feeling or that self-awareness, I guess.”
