A campaign to clamp down on Londoners driving untaxed vehicles caught 12 motorists in the first 20 minutes after its launch yesterday.
Police and enforcement officers from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency said the drivers were stopped at a roadblock in Walthamstow during the morning rush-hour.
The agency estimates there are about 149,000 motorists in London driving without valid tax discs, costing pounds 15.5m in lost revenue. It said more random roadblocks over the next fortnight were expected to produce similar results.
