Next Friday should prove to be the start of a unique opportunity for Elton John, his several overcrowded, walk-in-wardrobes, and the public. John, who has a huge appetite for fashion and often buys multiples of everything from suits and shirts to glasses is selling off 8,000 items of his clothing and donating the funds, (expected to be around pounds 250,000) to the Aids Foundation. The clothing will not be auctioned off to the highest bidder as is usual when a celebrity sells his or her wares: instead John has rented a shop in Mayfair which will be open for a month. It's probably not wise to head down on Friday morning when the press launch takes place, but the afternoon should provide rich pickings, for Elton John and Versace fans. Prices were not set at the time of going to press.
Elton John's shop is at 1 Dover Street, London W1
