The word on the street is that Merseyside is the place to be from this weekend when The 7th Brouhaha International Performing Arts Festival gets under way.
With companies coming from Austria, Ukraine, Ireland, former Yugoslavia, as well as from Liverpool itself (including Rapscallion theatre company, right), the award-winning festival offers locals from Birkenhead to Bootle (30,000 witnessed the performances last year) the chance to enjoy the pick of Europe's street entertainers.
This year, for the first time, the international companies are running workshops and sharing skills with community groups throughout the area, including hearing-impaired children from Knotty Ash and young unemployed people from Bootle. The results can be seen at a special performance night at the Bluecoat Arts Centre on 9 August.
Venues around Merseyside, to 10 Aug. Info: 0151-709 3334
