STORY OF THE YEAR COMPETITION
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. There is still time to enter the Story of the Year competition run by the Independent in association with Scholastic Children's Books. Write a new short story for six- to nine-year-olds and you could win pounds 2,000, and see it in print in the Independent Magazine in June. The two runners- up win pounds 500 each, and the top 10 stories will be published in an anthology by Scholastic Children's Books in the autumn.
Stories of 1,500 to 2,500 words must arrive before 13 April at: Story of the Year Competition, PO Box 10715, London WC1A 1NA. The post code given originally in Private Life was incorrect. Please note that this is the correct post code.
For full details of how to enter, see the Independent Magazine this Saturday and read about how the modern architect John Pawson shares books with his 10-year-old son, Caius.
