The people who consult astrologers for career advice – and what the stars supposedly tell them

Navigating your path through the murky waters up the career ladder (mixed metaphors but stay with us) is not easy.

Particularly when starting out in the professional world, it’s all too common to feel lost, unsure of whether you’re going in the right direction and confused about how to progress.

So what do you do? You could ask your parents for advice, consult a careers service or seek help online, sure.

But there are some people who believe the answers lie elsewhere: in the stars. (Yes, really.)

Obsession over horoscopes is not uncommon amongst millennials, and this is just another area where people are consulting their zodiac.

Because of course, what could have more insight into your career path than the stars?

The part you need to look at is your ‘midheaven’, which is at the top of your birth chart (you can get your own birth chart here, but be warned - you need to know the exact time you were born).

The midheaven tells you which part of the zodiac was highest in the sky at the moment you were born.

And according to Sandra Sitron of Strong Eye Astrology, “the midheaven is the career area of the chart.”

So if astrologers are to be believed, “the midheaven represents the area where you’re likely to score your most public achievements and build a reputation for yourself,” Well + Good reports.

However as with all star signs, the chances of the career advice for your sign actually fitting with your life are incredibly slim.

Are you a Gemini? If so, you’re apparently “the PR girl of the zodiac” who loves bringing people together, asking questions in meetings and working on different tasks.

Geminis apparently have a way with words and languages, are witty, versatile and sociable, and need to stay engaged in their work to be successful.

(That description actually totally fits this writer who’s on the cusp of Virgo and Libra, so it's all a bit suspect.)

Virgos, on the other hand, are meant to be the ones in the office with the impeccably tailored outfits (nope) and the perfectly organised desks (definitely not).

If you’re a Sagittarius, you should be a natural leader with an infectious enthusiasm for work, if the stars are to be believed. Made for the world stage are Sagittariuses (Sagittariae?), apparently.

So next time you hit a roadblock in your career, fear not - just turn to the horoscope page in your favourite magazine.
