No sooner had he taken office than a new furore erupted online, but this time, it was all down his ‘stunningly handsome’ bodyguard.
Photos of 36-year-old Choi Young Jae were reportedly first posted on Korean web portal Daum where they received tens of thousands of views.
But since appearing on Twitter, his square-jaw, coiffed hair and sultry gaze has really sent fans into a frenzy with the #bodyguardbae.
After re-posting photos to her profile, one Twitter user wrote, “Excuse me, this is the new Korean president’s bodyguard.” It has since received more than 24,000 re-tweets and 55,000 likes.
But, admiration for the special warfare command officer doesn’t stop there. Other netizens have been dreaming up ways of meeting him and even calling for Choi-inspired fanfiction.
“ If I charge for the South Korean president, will his bodyguard tackle me?” said one fan.
While another posted, “he looks like the square-jawed serious romantic lead. Who's going to be his plucky heroine who accidentally captures his heart?”
One person simply put, “My body needs guarding.”
Regrettably though, the presiden’ts campaign office have confirmed that Choi is “unfortunately married and has two daughters.”
Part of a wider appreciation, the South Korean media has lauded the bodyguard as a leading member of what they have dubbed the “handsome brigade” of officials.
Surprisingly, this even includes president Moon himself who, after images during his younger years surfaced during the election campaign, sent fans hearts a-flutter.
