Shotgun pair attack man outside pub

A south London pub was the scene of a gangland-style murder attempt for the second time in four months on Sunday when two masked gunmen approached a customer and fired shots into his neck and face. The victim, a 37-year-old man, was outside the St Helier Tavern in Carshalton with another man when his attackers fired the shotguns they both carried. In a bid to escape, the victim dived behind a parked car but he was pursued by his attackers, who slashed his throat and face with a knife.

A spokeswoman for Scotland Yard said: 'The victim was well known to the suspects. There has been a long-standing dispute between them. The victim was later said to be stable in hospital. Four months ago a 25-year-old man was battered with a pool cue then stabbed at the pub.
