At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Actor Seth Rogen has announced he is launching his own cannabis company..

The Canadian company, called Houseplant, has been the result of "five years of hard work", between Rogen and co-founder Evan Goldberg, the Pineapple Express star wrote on Twitter on Wednesday evening.

It has been launched in collaboration with Canopy Growth, a cannabis company based in Ontario, Canada.

"Houseplant is a passion we've brought to life through drive and dedication," Rogen said.

"Every decision we've made for the business reflects the years of education, first-hand experience and respect we have for cannabis."

Houseplant is due to release three strains of cannabis over the next few months.

These strains of the drug are called Houseplant Sativa, Houseplant Hybrid and Houseplant Indica.

Houseplant Sativa, will be available to purchase from early April 2019.

The other two strains will be released in Canada later on in the year, in addition to cannabis soft gels and pre-rolled joints.

Screenwriter Goldberg said he and Rogen, who became friends when they were 13 years old, are "excited to be able to share our passion for cannabis with Canadians in this way".

In October 2018, Canada became the first industrialised nation and the second country in the world to legalise marijuana.

Under the new law, Canadian citizens are allowed to carry up to 30 grams of cannabis in public, and each household can grow up to four marijuana plants.
