Harry Potter fans are celebrating after it was revealed that Rupert Grint and his long-term girlfriend Georgia Groome are expecting their first child.

On Thursday, the couple were photographed buying supplies in London amid the coronavirus lockdown, where Groome’s pregnancy could be seen.

“Rupert Grint and Georgia Groome are excited to announce they are expecting a baby and would please ask for privacy at this time,” a representative for the couple confirmed to People.

Grint, 31, who played Ronald Weasley in the Harry Potter films, has reportedly been dating Groome, 28, who is best known for her role as Georgia in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, since 2011.

Although the couple are private and rarely share updates about their relationship, Grint revealed in 2018 during an interview with The Guardian that he wanted to become a father “soon”.

“Turning 30 felt strange. It just doesn’t feel like I’m there yet and I don’t know what the future holds,” he said at the time. “I’m just going to go with the flow, keep playing interesting characters, and see what happens. I’d like to settle down and have kids soon.”

The actor, who is currently starring in the Apple TV+ series Servant, also pondered whether he’d name his future child after his Harry Potter character, telling the outlet: “If I had a son, would I call him Ron? It’s quite a good name, but probably not. And Grint’s a tough name to pair a one-syllable first name with.”

On social media, the announcement has been met with support and nostalgia from those who grew up reading and watching the Harry Potter franchise.

“Rupert Grint is gonna be a dad??? Our Rupert Grint? The one we watched grow up? I'm gonna cry, my baby,” one person tweeted.

Another said: “Currently imagining Rupert Grint reading Harry Potter to his kid and how lucky they are to have THE Ron Weasley as their dad.”
