From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. The Queen has been pictured during the filming of a BBC programme which will be broadcast on Sunday to mark Commonwealth Day.

The programme, which features the royal family, will air on Sunday 7 March, the same day as Harry and Meghan’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey. It will feature an address from the Queen.

The head of state has been pictured in St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle wearing a blue dress and silk and wool cloque jacket designed by Angela Kelly.

In the photograph, the Queen is wearing a chrysanthemum brooch, made from sapphires and diamonds set in platinum, on her left shoulder.

The 94-year-old was also pictured wearing the item when she was seen out with Prince Philip on the couple’s 73rd wedding anniversary in November.

She was also previously photographed wearing the brooch during her honeymoon with Philip at Broadlands in Hampshire in 1947, and again in pictures released for the couple’s 60th wedding anniversary in 2007.

The Queen’s Commonwealth address falls on the same day as the broadcast of Harry and Meghan’s highly-anticipated interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The programme marks almost a year since the couple stepped back from the royal family on March 31 2020.

Trailers for the interview suggest that the couple will discuss their relationship with the royal family, as well as their treatment by the press.

It comes as Buckingham Palace last week confirmed it would be investigating claims first reported by The Times on Tuesday about bullying at Kensington Palace.

A statement on Wednesday said: “Accordingly our HR team will look into the circumstances outlined in the article.”

Meghan has denied the claims and said she is “saddened” by the allegations.

Oprah with Meghan and Harry will be broadcast on ITV in the UK on Monday 8 March at 9pm, the day after it is shown in the US.
