The Queen turns 94

On Tuesday 21 April, Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate her 94th birthday.

Having sat on the throne since she was 25 years old, the monarch has become acquainted with many celebrities throughout her lifetime, at events including receptions at Buckingham Palace and star-studded film premieres.

Following the Royal Variety Performance in 2009, the Queen met singer Lady Gaga, who was clad in a striking red latex Atsuko Kudo gown.

Meanwhile back in the mid-1970s, Queen Elizabeth II was pictured beaming as she shook hands with singer and actor Barbra Streisand at the London premiere of Funny Lady.

From Daniel Craig to Marilyn Monroe, here are 30 times the worlds of showbiz and royalty met:

It was recently reported that the Queen’s birthday will not be marked by gun salutes, as is tradition.

A Buckingham Palace source told The Independent that the monarch did not feel it was appropriate given the current climate.

In addition to the Queen’s birthday not being celebrated in any special way, it is reported that any calls between the monarch and her family on her birthday will remain private.

Throughout her 67-year reign, Queen Elizabeth II has been known to have a particular affinity for brightly coloured clothing.
