From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In September, the musician shared an Instagram photo of herself posing in a blue one-piece swimming costume designed by her friend Theresa Mingus.
In the caption, Gomez wrote about how “difficult” it was for her to show off the scar on her inner thigh, but how she has since come to embrace it.
“When I got my kidney transplant, I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar,” the 28-year-old wrote. “I didn’t want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up.
“Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through...and I’m proud of that.
“T - Congratulations on what you’re doing for women, launching @lamariette whose message is just that...all bodies are beautiful.”
Now, Princess Eugenie has thanked the musician for her post, sharing a screengrab of it on her own Instagram Story.
“I thought this was super cool of selenagomez to show she's confident of who she is and what she went through after finding it difficult to show her scar,” the Princess wrote.
"Let's be proud of our uniqueness."
Eugenie regularly shares photographs of her own scoliosis scar on social media to encourage others to feel equally empowered to do so.
When she married Jack Brooksbank on 12 October 2018, the royal felt strongly about ensuring her wedding dress did not conceal her scar.
When Princess Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank on 12 October 2018, the royal felt strongly about ensuring her wedding dress did not conceal her scar.
“Part of it was showing my scar and I believe scars tell a story about your past and your future, and it’s a way of getting rid of a taboo,” she said.
The princess added that after the wedding, she received letters from people “who were happy that I stood up and showed my scar”.
