The Duke of Cambridge has paid a visit to a local pub in Norfolk ahead of its reopening on Saturday.

On Saturday 4 July, pubs in England will reopen their doors for the first time in nearly four months after the UK was put into lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak.

To mark the occasion, Prince William visited the Rose & Crown pub in Snettisham, where it’s been operating for more than 600 years.

While there, HRH spoke to the pub’s current owners, Jeannette and Anthony Goodrich, who have been landlords for 25 years.

The trio discussed the challenges that pubs across the country have faced during the pandemic, such as having to furlough staff and apply for financial support.

Prince William also spoke to staff members at the pub about their experiences in lockdown and how they will be adapting their way of working to ensure the health and safety of themselves and of customers.

According to a statement released by Kensington Palace, several measures have been put in place to ensure the pub will be Covid-secure.

These include reducing the number of tables in their restaurant and scaling back their menu.

Pub staff also described how they have helped to adapt operations over the last few weeks in order to be able to offer takeaway drinks and meals to customers before they could reopen fully.

All services opening to the public are having to follow strict Covid-secure guidelines, including implementing social distancing, screens at counters, encouraging customers to stay at tables and away from bars for ordering food and drinks, and regularly washing their hands.

Outdoor playground and gyms were also included in the 4 July measures but indoor facilities have continued to remain closed because of the increased risk of virus transmission inside.

Other places that remain closed include swimming pools and nightclubs as these are also deemed higher risk.
