The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have released a new official portrait, which shows the couple looking relaxed and at ease while being photographed at their home in California.

In the portrait, which was captured by photographer Matt Sayles, Meghan is sat on a chair with Prince Harry leaning on the armrest, both wearing suits.

Prince Harry is gazing directly at the camera smiling while Meghan is looking downwards, the duchess seemingly caught in mid-laughter as she rests her arm on her husband’s leg.

Meghan is wearing minimal accessories, including her engagement ring, her wedding band, a bangle and a ring on the little finger of her right hand.

However, the most notable accessory being worn by the former Suits actor in the picture is her watch, which some people think is the Cartier Tank Française watch previously owned by the late Princess Diana.

Before she and Prince Harry met, Meghan had already expressed her fondness for the Cartier watch, having bought herself one in 2012 when Suits was renewed for a third season.

“I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank Watch,” she told Hello! magazine in 2015.

“When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season – which, at the time, felt like such a milestone – I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version.”

At the time, the Duchess of Sussex explained that she had the watch engraved with the message “To M.M. From M.M,” adding that she planned on one day giving the timepiece to her daughter.

The new black-and-white portrait of Meghan and Prince Harry was taken ahead of their appearance in a special episode of Time100 Talks.

Time100 Talks is, according to Time magazine, “a new live event series that convenes leaders from every field to spotlight solutions to urgent global problems and encourage cross-disciplinary action”.

On Tuesday 20 October, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will host an episode of the event series featuring guests including Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Rappler CEO Maria Ressa and the hosts of Teenager Therapy, the podcast on which the couple recently appeared.
