Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

When visiting Archewell.com, people are greeted with a minimalist landing page that features a solid-taupe background and the word Archewell broken down phonetically.
“Arche (/rki/; Ancient Greek: ): (n.) Greek word meaning 'source of action. Well (/wel/): (n.) a plentiful source or supply; a place we go to dig deep,” the website reads.
Underneath the definition of Archewell, visitors are given the option to subscribe to emails from the organisation in order to learn more about its upcoming activities and initiatives.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle first announced the launch of Archewell in April, just one week after they stepped down from their roles as senior members of the royal family.
Having given up the Sussex Royal brand, which they used for their official Instagram account upon its launch in spring 2019, the couple unveiled details for their new non-profit organisation Archewell, which will consist of charitable ventures, support groups and a wellbeing website.
They said in a statement at the time: “Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of ‘Arche’ – the Greek word meaning ‘source of action’.
“We connected to this concept for the charitable organisation we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name. To do something of meaning, to do something that matters.
“Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon. We look forward to launching Archewell when the time is right.”
Harry and Meghan have not yet disclosed details regarding their plans for charity, previously stating they would do so “when the time is right”.
However, the royal couple have been working behind the scenes on the foundation, which is expected to champion issues such as racial justice, gender equity, climate change, mental health and tackling online hate speech.
The website launch coincided with the couple’s appearance on Time100 Talks, during which they spoke about the “global crisis” of misinformation that spreads online.
“What I see is the digital space hampering the progress that needs to be made,” Harry warned.
“This misinformation that seems to snowball from one place that is the online space and then ending up in our physical world, a lot of the time we don't know where it comes from, we don't know how to trace it back.”
