Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shared a message of solidarity and support amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In a post shared on their Sussex Royal Instagram account, the couple wrote that in these “uncertain times”, it is important to remember that “we need each other”.

The Sussexes shared a lengthy caption offering words of comfort alongside an image of a quote that reads: “This moment is as true a testament there is to the human spirit”.

“We need each other for truth, for support, and to feel less alone during a time that can honestly feel quite scary,” Meghan and Prince Harry wrote with regards to the global Covid-19 outbreak.

“There are so many around the world who need support right now, who are working tirelessly to respond to this crisis behind the scenes, on the frontline, or at home.

“Our willingness, as a people, to step up in the face of what we are all experiencing with Covid-19 is awe-inspiring.”

The couple wrote that as a society, “we often speak of compassion”, which is why treating one another “with empathy and kindness is indisputably important right now”.

“All our lives are in some way affected by this, uniting each of us globally,” they said.

Meghan and Prince Harry wrote that over the next few weeks, the importance of being empathetic and kind will be their “guiding principle”.

“We will be sharing information and resources to help all of us navigate the uncertainty: from posting accurate information and facts from trusted experts, to learning about measures we can take to keep ourselves and our families healthy, to working with organisations that can support our mental and emotional well-being,” they stated.”

“In addition, we will focus on the inspiring stories of how so many of you around the world are connecting in ways big and small to lift all of us up.”

The Sussexes concluded their message with a statement about togetherness, saying: “We are all in this together, and as a global community we can support each other through this process – and build a digital neighbourhood that feels safe for every one of us.”

They then said that they “look forward” to sharing more content with their online followers in “the days and weeks to come”.

Several Instagram users thanked the duke and duchess for their message of support.

“Couldn’t agree more. Love this message,” one person said.

“Thanks for sharing love and light,” another commented.
