From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. A grieving mother who lost her four-year-old son to a brain tumour has shared the moment she was sent a ‘sign’ in the form of a robin.

Jack Robinson, from Waterlooville, Hampshire, passed away in April 2014.

Just before Marie Robinson, 45, visited Jack’s burial spot on the third anniversary of his death, she asked him for a sign.

When she arrived at the cemetery, she sat down on the grass only to notice a robin flying around and at one point it even sat on her hand.

Robinson, who has four other children, shared a video of the moving moment on Facebook where it has since received more than eight million views.

Alongside the footage, she writes, “Can’t believe what’s just happened come to see my precious boy Jack just sat down on ground next to him and this happened.

“Yes it brought me to tears. Taking it as a sign from jack.”

She told the Mirror, “He didn’t seem scared at all. He went and sat on a nearby headstone so I got my phone out to film him being close to me and he flew over and landed on my hand.

“He kept looking at me directly in my face and at one point he landed on my shoulder and nibbled me a couple of times.”
