Prince Louis will be christened today at The Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace with close members of the royal family in attendance, including the royal baby’s newly-appointed godparents.

While it was announced this morning that the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh will miss the ceremony, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be accompanied by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall and Mr and Mrs Middleton.

The royal couple will also be joined their son’s six godparents and their spouses: Nicholas van Cutsem, Guy Pelly, Harry Aubrey-Fletcher, Lady Laura Meade, Hannah Carter and Lucy Middleton.

So, who are Prince Louis’ godparents and how do they know the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge?

Nicholas van Cutsem

A close friend of the Duke of Cambridge since childhood, van Cutsem is an international business developer based in London.

The two met as children due to Prince Charles being friendly with Cutsem's father when the two were at the University of Cambridge together.

His daughter Grace was a bridesmaid at the Duke’s wedding in 2011, while his other daughter Florence was a bridesmaid at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding in May.

Guy Pelly

A close friend of both William and Harry for years, the British nightclub owner, behind popular royal hotspots Tonteria and Mahiki, organised William’s stag do prior to his 2011 nuptials and is also the godfather to Prince George.

His mother, Lady Carolyn Herbert, was close friends with the late Princess Diana and once dated Prince Andrew.

Harry Aubrey-Fletcher

Another old friend of William’s - the two went to Eton College together - Aubrey-Fletcher also happens to be the 8th Baronet and Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire.

Lady Laura Meade

A distant cousin of the Duchess of Cornwall, Meade is married to one of William’s close friends, James Meade, who is godfather to Princess Charlotte.

The couple also live in Norfolk in an area close to where the royal couple have their home.

Hannah Carter

One of the Duchess of Cambridge’s close friends from school, the duo both attended Marlborough College, Gillingham is married to Robert Carter, who is also good friends with William.

Lucy Middleton

Middleton is the Duchess of Cambridge's cousin and works as a solicitor.
