Pink defends herself for describing teenager who mocked Native American elder as ‘disrespectful’

Pink has defended her condemnation of the teenager who made headlines for mocking a Native American man, saying that people can unfollow her on social media if they don't agree with her opinions.

During a recent anti-abortion rally in Washington D.C., a teenager wearing a "MAGA" hat was filmed standing in front of a Native American man and grinning at him while his fellow students imitated the elder's drumming and singing.

Pink shared the video on her Instagram page, describing the behaviour of teenager Nick Sandmann and his peers as "appalling and beyond disrepectful".

While many people praised the singer for expressing her views, others denounced her for her stance on the incident.

Pink has since responded to the criticism, stating that she stands by her words.

"I am the same girl I've always been. I have always admitted when I am wrong. I have apologised many times," she wrote on Instagram.

"I was raised by a Vietnam veteran who taught me to stand up for what I believe to be right. Even if that means standing alone.

"I do not now, nor have I ever apologised for some of my very polarising opinions."

The pop star continued, saying that anyone who feels "surprised" or "offended" by her strong views can simply stop following her social media channels.

"There are many beautiful people in the world and in this country who want equality for all," she wrote.

"For children to have respect for others, for veterans to be honoured and treated with respect.

"These are the ideals my father raised me with. And you cannot talk me out of it."

Pink's latest Instagram post commenting on the interaction between Sandmann and Nathan Phillips has garnered more than 450,000 likes.

Celebrities including actor and businesswoman Jessica Alba, singer Brandi Carlile and personal trainer Jeanette Jenkins have expressed their support towards Pink in response to her post.

"Thank you for standing for something and for being consistent," Alba commented.

"The new BOSS," Carlile added.
