From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Writing in The Daily Telegraph, Walden, 44, explained that thieves broke into the house while they were sleeping.
Walden explained that she came downstairs at 6.15am and saw that her handbag was upside-down on the sofa while her jewellery box was empty beside it.
The writer said they stole “all the cash they could find” in addition to a collection of sentimental jewellery.
Items stolen included an art deco ring that Morgan had bought Walden for their fifth anniversary and a vintage Pucci cuff.
“Every last piece I had with me was gone, none of it of great value, all of it irreplaceable,” she wrote.
“Then I remembered something that made me feel sick: the up-turned handbag found in the sitting room had originally been on a chair in our bedroom. They must have crept in there and stood inches away from us while we slept,” Walden wrote.
The journalist revealed that she had seen a drone flying over her home a few days prior to the burglary, something that police said was common among burglary victims in the area.
“After all the stories I’ve heard over the past few days from neighbours and friends who have been burgled in that same area, I feel grateful that we got off as lightly as we did,” she concluded.
Morgan has not yet commented publicly on the bulglary.
