A poll of 1,000 mums and dads, by parenting website Channel Mum, found the typical child will be strapped into their pram eight times a week, for a walk that lasts around 1.8 miles on each occasion.
That amounts to more than 14 miles a week, or 62 miles a month.
The study also found that while mums tend to take their children on more walks, dads will go on longer strolls.
“Getting out and about in a buggy can be intimidating, especially for new parents,” said Channel Mum founder Siobhan Freegard.
“That first time out the door with a baby wrapped up is a huge event, akin to learning to drive and hitting the road on your own for the first time.
“But there are so many benefits to taking your children out for a walk in the pram – it can help soothe babies, it’s sociable and it’s a great to keep active too.
“A buggy plays a massive part in parents' lives and is often more important than the family car – and as this study shows, many UK prams are putting in as many miles as a family car too.”
The research found there are many reasons parents take their children out for walks in prams, with more than a third saying it helps their kids fall asleep.
Similarly, more than a quarter of parents said they use their prams to attend “buggy boot camp” and help them get in shape, while 15 per cent admit to using it as a substitute for a shopping trolley.
The study, carried out via One Poll, also found that seven in 10 parents own up to taking their child out in the pram even if they were able to walk for themselves for “an easier life”.
And, parents revealed the average age their children tend to stop using the pram is two years and nine months.
