Oscars viewers praise Parasite director's 'incredibly brilliant' interpreter Sharon Choi
Choi is also a film director
During a night of accolades for Hollywood's stars, viewers have praised Sharon Choi, the translator and interpreter for Parasite director Bong Joon-ho, for her own talent at this year's Oscars.
Choi has become a regular fixture this awards season as the cast and crew behind the Korean film take home numerous awards, including Best Director and Best Picture.
In addition to standing alongside Joon-ho for interviews, Choi also accompanies the director on stage, where she seamlessly translates his native Korean into English.
On social media, viewers have become enamoured with Choi’s ability to make the interpretations look so easy - and for her hard work each award show.
“Translation is incredibly difficult but what’s even more challenging is interpreting and I truly cannot stress enough how incredibly brilliant Sharon Choi is,” one person wrote.
Another said: “Can we give an honorary award to Bong Joon Ho’s translator, Sharon Choi? She has been a knockout this award season!”
Among those praising Choi was Piers Morgan, who tweeted: “Sharon Choi is tonight’s unsung hero. World’s best translator.”
In addition to a translator, Choi is also a director herself - a fact Joon-ho revealed in an interview following the Golden Globes.
