Hugo Williams, journalist and travel writer was born in Windsor in 1942 and grew up in Sussex. He is film critic for Harpers & Queen and writes the 'Freelance' column in the TLS. His previous collections include Writing Home, Selected Poems and Self-Portrait With A Slide, all published by Oxford University Press. This poem is from Dock Leaves published by Faber priced pounds 6.99. Hugo Williams will be reading at The Hay Festival on Sunday at 8pm. (Box Office 0497 821299).
